PAL EXPEDITION IN HISTORIC PENSACOLA WITH CUB SCOUT PACK #497
A recent PAL Expedition, led by Caleb Curren and Steve Smith, investigated a small portion of the impressive historic downtown Pensacola. Cub Scout Pack #497, led by Cub Master Doug Heatwole, joined the expedition with about a dozen Scouts and leaders. After a surface search was made, an excavation unit was plotted and completed. It was discovered that about 50 cm of intact midden dating from the late 1600's to the early 1900's is present in this particular private lot. Analysis of the artifacts is currently underway and will be presented later on the PAL web page. It appears from historic maps that this area was near the eastern wall of an historic Spanish and British fort dating to the 1700's. Thanks to the land owner, Frank Hamilton, Steve Newby, and the Scouts of pack #497 for making this a successful PAL Expedition.
